Position Overview: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position provides personal care assistance and general support activities to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities under the supervision of the facility administrator.
Essential Functions of the job are to complete the following:
- Coordinate, supervise, and participate in the activities of a specialized service; provide support to Individuals served and participate in daily activities essential to the completion of the service objectives.
- Participates in the development and implementation of Individual Program Plans (IPP) and/or ISP’s, medical/medication directions, and formalized records concerning Individual's behavior and activities.
- Communicate and interact with person served on an individual and group basis.
- Assist Individual with performing daily living activities, including but not limited to eating, showering, bathing, toileting, dressing, shaving, combing hair, shampooing, brushing teeth, and cutting nails.
- Assist Individual with light and heavy household duties, including but not limited to, cleaning, cooking, laundering, making beds, and other tasks of the Individuals choice.
- Act as an advocate in resolving problems and securing needed services for person served as well as ensuring personal choice, freedoms, responsibility, and support for person served.
- Transport and/or support Individual to medical, vocational, residential, and social activities.
- Assist Individual in the self-administration of medications including non-prescription and prescription medication as prescribed by licensed medical providers.
- Observe Individuals behaviors, documents medication administration and behavior, and advises supervisor immediately of any concerns.
- Update facility files, progress notes and daily activities in communication logs to ensure compliance with all regulations.
- Participate in trainings and meetings as directed.
- Complete Individual's documentation on a daily basis.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintains effective working relations with all team members, including family members, guardians, fiduciaries, and advocates.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent;
- one (1) year experience working with developmentally disabled adults and/or human services/behavioral health field preferred
- 1 year of Direct Support Professional experience is required
- ability to meet licensing requirements for working with developmentally disabled/mentally populations or any equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, perform standard First Aid, perform CPR, perform Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and observe person served rights.·
- State of California Community Care Licensing Fingerprint Clearance and Department of Justice.
- A valid California Class C driver’s license· Must be insurable under the company automobile policy if position requires driving a company vehicle.·
- Direct Support Professional 1 classroom training certification.· Ability to work flexible schedules, weekends, nights, days, evenings, partial shifts and holidays.
