Summary

The Employment Coach and Case Manager develops relationships with businesses to help them see the value in providing working/learning opportunities for TAY. The Employment Coach establishes and maintains activities to develop, locate, and secure job openings; and initiates and sustains ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for client placement. Once a client is employed and/or has an internship, the Employment Coach works with the client and job supervisor to help mentor the client in order to have a successful employment experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify employment partners for job placements for our clients.
  • Develop relationships with employers in order to understand their business and the job requirements of positions they seek to fill.
  • Work with employers to identify specific skills they are seeking and develop a process for client to acquire those skills.
  • Work with Case Managers to prepare clients for job applications and interviews.
  • Work with Case Managers to arrange job placements/internships for our clients.
  • Work as a liaison between our client and their employer to help resolve any concerns that may arise and be aware of training needs for the client.
  • Work with the Case Mangers to help ensure the clients are receiving the kind of training and reinforcement they need to be a successful employee.
  • Help analyze reasons why placements arent successful and make adjustments to improve success ratios.
  • Weekly document both the outreach activities to potential employers as well as specific efforts made in assisting our clients.
  • Excellent social/interpersonal skills and writing ability.
  • Well organized and self-directed with a demonstrated proficiency with computers and PC software.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment with a demonstrated ability to set and keep deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • A bachelors degree in social work or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred. Consideration will be given to an AA degree or equivalent and prior experience working in workforce development.
  • 2-3 years experience in workforce development preferred with an emphasis on employer outreach and service to the transitional age youth (TAY) population.
  • General knowledge of an understanding of the needs of the TAY population as well as knowledge of available community resources.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Must have a valid California drivers license and good driving record.
  • Must be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks for this class of employee.
  • Must meet Title XXII personnel requirements with regards to fingerprinting, forms, and documents.
  • Possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates within 30 days of employment.
  • Obtain within the first 30 days of employment Pro-Act (Professional Assault Crisis Training).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite in particular Word and PowerPoint.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an adolescent residential therapeutic environment. The position will interact with adolescent youth whom have experienced multiple traumas in their lives and have significant mental health and behavioral issues.
