Primary Focus: Residential Facilities & RBT Supervision

Behavior Specialist Services, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Behavior Consultant to join our team! This position primarily focuses on providing direct behavioral consultation, crisis management, staff training, and supervision within residential facilities and group homes, supporting adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities.

In addition, the Behavior Consultant will provide supervision for RBTs and, at times, offer behavioral consultation services for preschools and schools.

This role is ideal for behavior analysts looking to sharpen their skills in crisis management, collaborate with a team experienced in reducing severe behaviors, and empower staff to drive meaningful change.

Key Responsibilities

Consultation and Crisis Management in Residential Facilities

  • Provide direct consultation to residential facilities, coaching Direct Support Staff (DSPs) on effective behavioral interventions.
  • Support crisis management by offering hands-on intervention to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  • Deliver real-time crisis consultation, guiding staff through de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies.
  • Conduct on-site support and training for DSPs to enhance their ability to manage challenging behaviors.
  • Develop structured intervention strategies to reduce high-risk behaviors and improve clients' adaptive skills.
  • Collaborate with residential administrators, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive behavioral support plans.

Direct Supervision & Oversight of RBTs & DSPs

  • Provide ongoing supervision for Direct Support Staff pursuing RBT certification.
  • Conduct supervisory meetings to ensure high-quality service delivery and adherence to behavior plans.
  • Attend monthly meetings to review reports, discuss client progress, and support DSPs in behavior plan implementation.

Behavior Analysis & Data-Based Decision-Making

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to determine the root causes of challenging behaviors.
  • Develop and implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on assessment data.
  • Maintain and analyze data collection systems, adjusting intervention strategies as needed.

Staff Training & Family Support

  • Provide staff training on behavior support plan implementation, crisis management, and intervention strategies.
  • Deliver assent-based, person-centered care, ensuring interventions prioritize client autonomy and well-being.
  • Offer direct supervision and feedback to RBTs, DSPs, and therapists to enhance their skill development.
  • Train DSPs in residential homes on crisis management techniques and intervention effectiveness.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & School-Based Consultation (Occasional)

  • Work closely with residential staff, speech pathologists, and therapists to provide holistic behavioral support.
  • Guide families in implementing behavior interventions at home to promote generalization of skills.
  • Occasionally consult with preschools and schools, offering support for behavior management and teacher coaching.
  • Provide classroom consultation, coaching teachers on strategies to manage disruptive behaviors.
  • Conduct training sessions for educators, focusing on creating structured, supportive learning environments.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete regional center reports in collaboration with residential administrators and school teams.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and semi-annual reports for each residential client.
  • Conduct fidelity checks and interobserver agreement (IOA) assessments to evaluate intervention effectiveness.

Professional Development & Ethical Standards

  • Stay updated with the latest research, techniques, and advancements in behavior analysis.
  • Attend professional workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance expertise.
  • Address ethical concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing supervision for RBTs and DSPs within residential facilities and preschools.
  • Conduct fidelity checks and IOA assessments to ensure adherence to behavior plans.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BCBA certification required (Board Certified Behavior Analyst).
  • 8-hour supervision training certification required.
  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working in residential facilities or group homes.
  • 5+ years of experience working with adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Prior supervisory and telehealth experience.
  • Experience in teacher training or consulting is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work late hours (until 7:00 pm, 2-3 evenings per week).
  • Excellent report writing skills.
