Fresno/Clovis and surrounding cities (Fresno County)

Working Hours/Shift:

20 hours/week M-F, schedule TBD with the chosen candidate

What you bring to SBHG: 

  • Must have a Master's Degree in Nursing with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from an accredited university; completion of an approved Adult, Child, or Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program; possession of a Certificate by the State of California as a Nurse Practitioner; possession of a State of California issued medication furnishing number and a certificate issued by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for the furnishing for psychotropic medications.
  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Must have two to three years of experience with adults and children who present and are assessed with a DSM-V diagnosis.  Experience with mentally ill participants preferred.
  • Current certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Current certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, preferred
  • Current DEA License for the furnishing of psychotropic medications
  • Valid California Driver's License 

How you will make a difference: 

  • Performs complete initial psychiatric assessments on participants to determine DSM V diagnosis and develop a plan of care including medication furnishing if indicated.
  • Provides psychiatric services to participants, including psychiatric evaluation and follow up, prescriptions, medication consents, and case management.
  • Develops, follows and maintains a comprehensive treatment plan that adequately addresses the behavioral healthcare medical needs of the participant. Uses both nursing and psychiatric NP skills to develop a comprehensive and holistic plan of care appropriate to participant’s condition setting and course of care.
  • Provides timely documentation of each encounter with a participant, including symptoms addressed, need for current treatment, and rationale for any changes in treatment, within an electronic medical record.
  • Develops Standards of Care with collaborating Psychiatrist defining agreed upon level of review and support. Seeks immediate consultation with physician for the following: Emergent conditions requiring prompt medical intervention or hospitalization; acute decomposition of participants’ condition; participant problems that are not resolving as anticipated; if diagnostic, prescriptive or therapeutic procedure/intervention, then cannot be performed by the nurse practitioner.
  • Partners with Behavioral Health staff to ensure services are integrated into the clinical treatment with the highest level of quality attainable.
  • Reviews documentation completed by contracted PMHNP as assigned.
  • Provides consultation to contracted PMHNPs as needed.
  • Availability by phone to provide support and assistance in problem resolution.
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures with regard to medical care.
  • Provides consultation to Behavioral Health staff. Facilitates quarterly collaboration group with other PMHNPs. Participates in quarterly peer reviews. Outreaches to community agencies and health care settings.

In accordance with California law, the grade for this position is 58.64 - 93.82. Placement within the grade is determined based on experience, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
